Workshop on "Toward a migrant - sensitive malaria prevention strategy. Understanding the characteristics of mobile and migrant population and its implication for malaria vulnerability”

On November, 2015, at KS. Duxton No. 63 Nguyen Hue Street, District 1, with permission from the Ministry of Health and with financial and technical assistance from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the World Health Organization (WHO) after conducting a survey on "Understanding the patterns of mobility and prevention and potential risk factors affecting the spread of drug resistance in Binh Phuoc province, the Institute of Malariology- Parasitology - Entomology HCMC (IMPE HCM) coordinated with IOM and WHO to organize a workshop on "Toward a migrant - sensitive malaria prevention strategy. Understanding the characteristics of mobile and migrant population and its implication for malaria vulnerability” to discuss, evaluate and offer recommendations for the Malaria Prevention Program for mobile populations in the context toward implementing the National Strategy for the Malaria Prevention and Elimination .

There were representatives from IOM Vietnam, IOM Asia, WHO, Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Ministry of Health, IMPE HCM, NIMPE and other departments related to immigrants of Binh Phuoc province, mass media agencies Saigon Times, Health Life, O2 TV).

The workshop included the results of the Knowledge - Attitude - Behavior survey of mobile population groups in Binh Phuoc Province, presenting the results of in - depth studies on mobile types and malaria risk in Binh Phuoc province. The National Program Malaria Control for mobile populations collected information on migration patterns and risk factors and understanding about the risk of malaria transmission among migrants. There is a need to strengthen communication education for behavior change in both local and mobile populations.

At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing, sharing information and experience lessons on population mobility and malaria control for mobile populations, assessing the results of recent survey of IMPE HCM to better protect the health, malaria control for mobile populations.
